Wrestling Media Scrums....Do We Really Need Them?

Much discourse has been about 'wrestling media' scrums over the past year. Do we as fans really need them. I will not use the term 'wrestling media' because there is no true media personal for wrestling. Before you all start saying well there are people like Dave Meltzer, but he is not what I consider a journalist. He is more of a wrestling historian, than what we consider a real journalist to be. The past several media scrums have been nothing more than a joke. So, if we need them, how do we fix them? The last media scrum done by AEW for their Worlds End PPV was a disgrace. Even the owner of AEW had to ask a question to the three wrestlers who were there for questions because those who were afforded media passes sat there with their hands in their pockets. If you are not going to ask good, thought-provoking questions then you need to get out of the room. I recall the new AEW women's champion, Mariah May asking those in the room you don't have a question for me and there was an awkward silence to the point she got up and walked out.

So if we want scrums to continue, how do we fix them? First, the gatekeepers need to stop letting their "friends" obtain media passes. Many other outlets (which I could name, but will not at this time) would make these scrums better if they were allowed in the 'room.' However, I do not see that changing. Next, those that have the privilege, please for the love of GOD stop asking stupid questions or questions that someone had just asked. You need to listen to what is being asked so that you don't look like an idiot asking the same question differently. The answer probably is not going to change. It does not make you look 'cool' or 'intelligent' instead you look like an ass. You are there to be professional and do a job, not run to social media to post stating your question was a good question. If you have to do that, then your question was probably stupid and shouldn't have been asked.  Many of you are afraid to really ask questions because you do not want to lose your media credentials because in your mind it makes you a cool person to have access. Many of you that do have access are only being used by these wrestlers because of the reach you have. They probably find you annoying and a dumb fuck with no true journalist standards.

As a fan, I feel that if the wrestling scrums do not change, then we should get rid of them and allow talent to get out of the building instead of having to wait for these 'so-called wrestling media' to ask questions that a 3rd grader would ask. Maybe if you want to be a true wrestling media personnel, do research on how to ask better questions and stop being a fan girl or boy. How about, I don't know, act like a professional.
