Progress Wrestling's Chapter 178: Fix Your Hearts
Progress Wrestling's Chapter 178: Fix Your Hearts

This was Progress Wrestling's last show before they come to Las Vegas, Nevada in April and Super Strong which will be held in May.

My initial thoughts on "Fix Your Heart" wasthat the show over all was great. I continue to say that if you are sleeping on British wrestling, then you are missing out on some of the best independent wrestling in the world. I do feel that Myles Kayman showboats a little too much for my taste and it takes away from the match. However, that might just be his style, and this was the first time I had seen his match. The Cara Noir versus Trent Seven match had way too many kickouts and false finishes to the point where the match went way too long, and I started to become bored with the match. Progress did a great job opening the show with a montage video letting fans know who was fighting who and conducted a nice narrative to go along with it. Their ring announcer, Jerry, is starting to grow on me because I said in my last review of Progress, I did not get his character.

Our opening match is Michael Oku vs Myles Kayman, I have heard and only seen snippets of Oku from a match he had at RevPro against Will Ospreay. Kayman shoves Oku, then rolls out of the ring and begins his showboating. Since Kayman and Oku look equally matched, it does not appear there is any advantage for either man. Oku does a nice hurricarada, then goes after Kayman outside the ring where Kayman sends him into the ring post. Amira, who comes out with Oku, stands her ground as Kayman tries to intimidate her. Kayman with snake eyes on Oku only gets a 2 count. Oku goes flying and makes it look so easy. Oku picks up the win by getting Kayman to tap out. After the match, Ethan Allan attacks Oku, who is set to face the World Champion in Las Vegas. Allen hits Oku, Amira comes in and slaps Allen, who turns around into a superkick from Oku, then Oku hits a frog splash and leaves Allen laying in the ring. Overall, this was a good match to start the show with. I look forward to seeing more of both these amazing wrestlers.

Match 2 was a Dog House Rules match between Gene Munny and Simon Miller for the Progress Proteus Championship. I became a fan of Miller after watching Chapter 177. This match can only be won by pinfall or submission and can only use weapons that could be purchased at a pet store. Simon dives through the ropes and takes out everyone. Simon puts Martina into the doghouse. Munny has a kendo stick (not sure you can buy that at a pet store..lol), and Simon takes it away. With a kendo stick in hand, Simon gets Munny to roll over like a dog. Simon hits Munny in the midsection with the kendo stick. There are distractions as the #1 nephew Will Kroos, gets Simon's attention, which allows Munny to gain some offense. Munny then attempts to put a dog muzzle on Simon. Simon does a nice sidewalk slam. Munny gets his family to come into the ring and triple team Simon, but Simon can fend off the MothDogs. Simon pins Munny to retain his Progress Proteus Championship. I will give this match a pass since it was a gimmick match. For a gimmick match, it had everything one would expect.

Next, we have our women's match, as many know, I am not a fan of women's wrestling. This match will see Millie McKenzie go up against the Women's Champion, Nina Samuels. I do like Samuels's presentation, as this was the first time I have seen her wrestle a full match. The bell rings and McKenzie does a beautiful dropkick on Samuels. This is also the first I have seen of McKenzie, and I was impressed with her ring skills. Samuels is dirty as she stands on the hair of McKenzie, which is great for Samuels' character. Nina Samuels is a great villain. McKenzie does a nice double underhook, which drops Nina on her face for a 2 count. In the end, Nina picks up the win. I was impressed by this match and became a fan of both of these fine ladies.

The next match features Lykos Gym versus Nico X Mills in an I Quit Match with no ropes. Before the bell rings, we get a staredown between the two teams, and then chaos ensues. Lykos II is taking chops from Mills and Nico, which look vicious. Lykos then takes out Nico and Mills on the outside. Mills climbs up on the post and takes flight as he put his feet through the chest of Lykos II. Lykos Gym was asked if they QUIT, both say NO. Lykos II, who had been taken out, comes back in and begins taking it to Nico and Mills. Then, outside the ring, Mills begins to rearrange the chairs and lays Lykos on them. what is Mills thinking????? Lykos I starts working on Nico's knee. Nico's partner, Mills, tries to make it back into the ring to save him but is stopped by Lykos II. Nico finally says I QUIT!!! This match was very good and brutal.

This match was the match everyone probably wanted to see the most, mentor versus student, friend versus friend, the Last Man Standing Match between Tate Mayfair and Eddie Dennis. Hit that bell, and let's get it on!!!! The match starts as Dennis is jawing at Tate, then he slaps Tate, who then returns the favor and now we get into the action. Tate is taking it to Dennis with fury, but Dennis slides out of the ring and grabs a chair but Tate kicks him to stop Dennis from using the chair. Dennis now takes out Tate and puts him back in the ring as he begins to use a chair on Tate's left knee. Dennis proceeds to slam Tate's knee onto a chair in the middle of the ring. Dennis is focused on making sure Tate is not able to stand as Dennis then takes Tate to the ring post and slams his knee into it. Dennis then ties Tate's legs together around the post, trying to prevent him from making the ten count, but Tate can break free and stand before 10. As the match progresses, we finally see the brass knuckles as Dennis tells Tate to use them and end this. Tate struggles with the decision but ultimately uses the brass knuckles on Dennis to get the win. Tate wins as Dennis is done with wrestling???? Before this match I thought this would be the match of the night, and I was not wrong. This match had you feeling emotions and was probably one of the best Last Man Standing matches I have seen in a while.

The next match was rightfully placed as a cool-down match after the Last Man Standing. We have MothSessions Martina versus Crowley. Before the bell, Gene Munny takes out Crowley trying to give Martina the upper hand. Crowley puts Martina into a gorilla press. Martina then takes down Crowley with a shot to his knee, or what we call in States..a chop block. Munny tries to get involved again only to take himself out. Martina then applies the sleeper hold as Crowley looks like his is fading and on one knee. Munny again gets on the apron to distract Crowley, but instead, Crowley gives him a nice juicy kiss. Crowley then sends Martina out of the ring, who is beside Munny. Crowley takes flight, and Martina moves, leaving him to take out poor Munny. #1 nephew, Will Kroos, comes out with a kendo stick to try and help, but Crowley lands a moonsault onto Will. Martina then spits beer in the face of Crowley, but he is kind enough to return the favor by spitting green mist in her face then hits the merry go around for the win. I am a fan of intergender matches and enjoyed this match. The more I see of Martina, the more of a fan I am becoming.

After the match, the MothDogs have had enough of Kroos screwing up things and begin to berate him. As I am watching, I am thinking about when Kroos is going to turn on them. Munny tells Kroos he isn't angry just disappointed, then hits Kroos with the kendo stick. Kroos has looked like he has enough tries to attack Munny but Martina jumps on his back. Martina then slaps Kroos, who in return gives her a pile driver, rips off his #1 nephew shirt, and goes after Munny. Someone call the cook because we need a spatula to scrape Martina out of the ring.

Match 7 of the night gives us Trent Seven versus Cara Noir. As I stated in my initial thoughts, this match was just way too long and had too many false finishes. It looked like Grandfather vs Grandson to me. The crowd is split 50/50 on who to cheer for. I will say that Cara Noir, known as the black swan, is the male version of Lyra Valkyrie in WWE. I am not going to much detail on this match because I thought it was boring and slow. Cara Noir did get the win with his blackout sleeper hold.

The main event was the tag match between Smokin' Aces, the Progress Tag Team Champions, versus Sunshine Machine. If Sunshine Machine loses, they will not get to challenge for the titles again (this is usually an indicator that they are going to win). The crowd was chanting Smokin' Assholes, as Charley says they win by forfeit because the Sunshine Machine does not have all its members. Sunshine Machine music hits, and Chuck comes out alone....then his partner Cooper is back. All four men are in the ring, and Charley throws his jacket at Sunshine Machine. This match was very good and was not overproduced. Chuck makes the tag to Cooper, who the fans were really behind, and he takes out the Aces. We get two ref bumps in this match to add to the drama. A mistake by Charley allows the Sunshine Machine to hit their finisher, the designated driver, and get the win. Sunshine Machine are your new Progress Tag Team Champions. After the match, we get a nice thank you from Nick, who said he would retire when his time was up with Smokin' Aces. Upset about the loss, Charley Sterling dismisses Nick and says fuck you, I am out.

Overall, this was a very well-done independent show. The crowd was very into what was going on in the ring. The commentary team was great again. I will say, Progress provides their fans with great entertainment, and their use of gimmick matches is done very well. I would rate this show a 9 out of 10.
